Kim and her husband Steve rescued Halite from the beach in front of their house in Saltair (Ladysmith) just a few weeks after they had moved there from Ontario. After contacting the rescue centre, they drove Halite to Nanaimo from where he was air-lifted to Vancouver by Harbour Air ─ just in time! Halite had a bit of a rough start and spent some time in intensive care after his arrival. Staff had to fight for his life during that time, but he has since made a full recovery.

Oh Halite, you've grown so much! He has been moved to a pre-release pool with lots of other harbour seals where he is currently learning to compete for fish, an important skill to have!
Halite continues to make progress in fish school. He's eating fish with just a little bit of help!
Halite is doing well in fish school. He is showing some interest in fish and it shouldn’t be too long until he learns to eat his herring all on his own.
