Story

People reported that a harbour seal pup had been seen on the beach at Salmon Point without its mother for a couple of days. MARS Wildlife Rescue Centre took in the animal overnight, provided fluids and arranged for transport to the airport the next day. Graphite made it safely to the Marine Mammal Rescue Centre in Vancouver shortly after.

Patient Updates

Graphite died on 2018/08/03 after 10 days in our care.

"Sadly, we lost Graphite last night. He appeared to be improving in recent days and close monitoring revealed no changes of his condition that gave any reason for concern. However, he deteriorated rapidly and unexpectedly last night despite our veterinary team's best efforts to save his life. With a poor prognosis for his successful recovery, the team made the decision to humanely euthanize him."

Graphite is quickly winning everyone's hearts. It's the cross-eyed pups that are people's favourites this year!

Graphite has a few wounds that are healing well, and he is gaining weight.
