Patient Updates
Sadly, Malteaser passed away before we could record any updates.
While on a morning visit to the Esquimalt Lagoon in Colwood on Vancouver Island we spotted this little baby Harbour Seal on the beach. The baby was all alone and appeared very weak. This area has plenty of dog walkers and we were concerned that she was in the hot sun and vulnerable to extra activity from people and their dogs. We asked the local garbage collection staff for assistance who were in the area of who to contact? We connected by phone with wildlife staff and reported this baby seal and her location. This pup looked extremely weak so we waited for 2 hours and watched to see if any adult seal would appear closer to gather her and none did. Eventually wildlife staff came to collect her. I phoned the next day and received news that she was air lifted to Vancouver and were very glad we created an action to help. All of us who saw her that morning wish this little one all the best to a healthy recovery.
We knew Mamas leave babies and go out to feed but this little one had been left at high tide which was many hours earlier as the tide was now coming in again. So tiny and eagles nearby so the rescue peeps were called. Thanks!!! And I love the name.
