He has been moved out of quarantine! He has also begun the weaning process, where his diet will be incrementally switched from formula to fish.
Early bird has completed the weaning process and is now in fish school!
Early Bird is doing great in fish school and eating all on his own!
We are so pleased to see that early bird, who we named Toby is doing well in your care. We found him on the rocks between Grassy Point and Collishaw Point and were so worried about him. He had been there for 2 days according to neighbors when I first found him and then it was another 24 hours until he was rescued. It was a neighborhood effort with a number of families keeping an eye on him to try and keep him safe until Island Wildlife and a local volunteer – Barb – helped to rescue him. We are so glad he is recovering!
After running into the Vancouver Aquarium MMR Volunteers releasing seals into the wild, we learned of your database. We are thrilled to see that Toby is on here, has been rehabilitated and released back into the ocean! We were a part of this rescue along with Abagail. We had been watching him for a few days and every night we would hear him cry, it was devastating. We are so happy that he survived his time in care and hope to see him in the waters of Brunswick Beach (from our boat)! Thank you to Abigail and Island Wildlife Natural Care Center on Salt Spring Island, who quickly sent Barb, and got Toby to safety!
