Patient Progress
Weaning Bic is still being fed a zoological milk formula, but as his teeth are beginning to erupt, his diet is being supplemented with fish. Soon, he will enter fish school where he will learn how to eat fish on his own.
Patient Updates
We met Bic when he immediately approached our boat as we were anchoring in Tribune Bay. He was crying and trying to suckle the barnacles on our bow. He stayed around for about 40 minutes but then floated off into the waves as the seas were picking up. I didn’t want to lose sight of him so I headed out in the dingy and he stayed near me until the rescue volunteer showed up about 90 minutes later. Bic was doing everything possible to get the assistance he needed – I am hopeful he will make a full recovery. Thank you to all the volunteers who give these animals a fighting chance!
We first saw Bic last week in Tribune Bay looking for her mom on Friday we were the last boat left in the bay after strong winds and she kept bumping our hull. We are so glad she is safe and being well taken care of thanks to the great work of VAMMR.

Hi Marine Mammal Rescue Society. My name is Sophia and I’m 10 years old. My mother, Daniela, called you last week from Tribune Bay while we were on our boat. to ask if Bic is OK. You see, before you named him Bic, we named him Harbour, so I’ll be referring to Bic as Harbour. I HAVE A LITTLE STORY TO SHARE!
On thé second night of our stay at Tribune we heard the pup calling, circling and nursing our boat. I was really worried for Harbour because it was alone. We where rafted to another sweet family on a boat, and together we kept on watching for it. My mom called you to come or to give us some advice what to do. We ended up hopping on the paddle board to watch and video the pup for you. You shared that it’s mom might take time (as long as 8 hours!) to come back. I was up all night fearful for the pup. I could hear it cry just outside of the V–birth, where I sleep and it was very sad. I tried to calm it by touching the walls where he was.
We had to leave the next morning because the weather was turning, but he was still there alone. No one was able to get to him because of the weather. Finally, two days later when mom called to ask about him, you guys said that he has been rescued. I was tearing in delight.
I miss Harbour and I wish I could visit him if possible…
I wish him to get well soon, drink lots of milk, learn to eat fish and make unforgettable friend. Send him my love and please read him this message. Thank you so much!🥹

Loved reading the other posts and it’s so great how much people care. Great story Sophia, it’s incredible how loud he was through the hull and I bet he knew you were there. That may have helped him keep going until he was rescued.
