When used for harbour seal pups, those who have made it this far will soon be released. They have already demonstrated that they can eat fish on their own and compete with others. They are probably already tagged as well. Now they only need to gain a little bit of weight.

Patient Progress

Ready for Release This is almost it. Ligo has reached the release weight and demonstrated normal behaviour and the ability to forage for fish on his own. He will be given a final check-up by the veterinary team before his release date. If he hasn't been tagged already, a tag will be attached to his hind flipper to identify him to us and authorities should he ever be sighted again. A release site will be chosen that provides relative safety and enough food to give him the best chance of survival. Ligo will be released shortly after. Please note that in the interest of a successful release, to avoid too many distractions for the animals, and due to limited space, the rescue centre cannot accommodate individual requests by members of the public to be present at the release. We will also not publish a release date or location before the release has taken place.

Patient Updates

Ligo is competing well in his pre release pool. He enjoys sun bathing on the haul outs and playing with the other seals in his pool.
