This is a large pre-release pool that houses many patients. Animals that have already demonstrated that they can eat fish on their own are placed in a larger pool like this where they can learn how to compete for fish and socialize with other harbour seals.

Meet Bayne! A seal pup born prematurely, still covered in her lanugo coat. She is now at the rescue centre to rest and recover, and is already a staff favourite!

Named after Baynes Sound Oyster Co. who found and reported this pup!

Patient Progress
Pre-Release Pool Bayne has demonstrated that she is confident eating fish on her own and that she can compete for food with other harbour seals. She has been moved to a larger pool where she can further test and improve her skills. She will move between pools as she progresses further and develops her skills until she reaches her release weight. It can take just a few weeks or several months before a patient is ready for release, depending on health status and treatment plan, weight gain and transport availability.

Bayne is clinging onto her lanugo coat like it's going out of style but she is doing great and now weaning onto fish!
Bayne has made a total transformation and she is now in a pre-release pool learning how to compete for fish with her pool mates!
Bayne had grown so much she's nearly unrecognizable, however she still has some of her blonde lanugo fur!
Bayne is getting closer and closer to release each day!
